DIY Hair Cut With a Hair Clipper
Getting an haircut with a hair clipper is not as complicated as it seems. As a newbie, though, it may come with some challenges. Thankfully, with experience and a bit of research, you can achieve a clean and precise cut with a DIY haircut. Over time, you might even be skilled enough to cut it exactly the way that your trusty barber would and turn your clipper into the ultimate hair cutting machine. Here are some tips to help you get an even haircut with a hair clipper.
Make sure to start with clean, dry hair
Before anything else, it’s important to start with clean, dry hair so wash it and dry it the day before or on the day you plan to cut it. This is to ensure that your clipper glides smoothly through your hair. If your hair is damp, the clipper can pull on the hair which is not what you want.
Choose the right clipper guard
The hair clipper guard or hair trimmer guard, whatever you prefer to call it, determines how much hair will be cut, so it is important to choose the right one for the length you want. For a shorter cut, use a smaller guard, while a longer cut requires a larger guard. It is better to start with a longer guard and work your way down gradually until you achieve the desired length.
Section your hair before cutting
Divide your hair into sections, and start from the bottom of your head and work your way up. Use a comb to hold the section of hair you want to cut, and use the hair clipper to trim the hair against the comb. This helps to ensure an even cut.
Use a mirror
Use a mirror to check the back of your head and make sure that the cut is even. You can also use two mirrors (on in the front and one in the back) to get a 360-degree view of your head.
Take your time
Don't rush the process. Take your sweet time to ensure that you get an even cut. Cut sections and cut a little bit at a time to avoid big mistakes that might be difficult to correct. You can always go back and trim more if needed but you can never uncut your hair, not even with the best hair clippers.
Clean your clippers
Clean your clippers after each use to ensure that they continue to work properly. Use a brush to remove any hair from the blades, and then wipe them down with a clean cloth. This will keep them working like they’re brand new professional hair clippers all the time, for a very long time.
