How To Choose The Best Beard Oil For You

Taking care of yourself (aka self-care) is a great way to boost your self-confidence. Did you know that more and more men are doing some sort of self-care routine these days? Most of the time, it’s a beard care routine and one thing that no man should ever be without is beard oil for his beard care routine. So, how do you choose the best beard oil for you? Check out these tips.

  1. Determine your skin type - at the end of the day, a lot of the beard oil you’ll be slathering on will also be going on the skin around your chin so it’s important to know what your skin type is so you can avoid products that contain ingredients that could break you out. Also, your beard would be much healthier if it were growing on healthy skin so make sure to choose your beard oil according to your skin type.
  2. Check what’s in it - check the label and see what ingredients were used to make the beard oil you’re planning on using. As much as possible, go with one that contains mostly natural ingredients. If you can’t find one, at least make sure that what you’re getting is free from alcohol and artificial fragrances that could lead your skin to act up and your beard to be damaged.
  3. Consider the added benefits - these days, most hair and beard care products come with tons of added benefits. There are some that make growing your beard faster and easier; others have vitamins in them to help your beard grow long and healthy. To get the most bang for your buck, go with a beard oil with added benefits so you can target more than one issue with just one product.
  4. Check the scent - not everyone is a fan of strong scents; no matter how good it smells.  If possible, open up the bottle and see what it smells like. Remember that the stronger the scent is, the higher the alcohol content a product tends to have. A good beard oil will ideally have a very natural, subtle scent to it.
  5. Pick the right consistency - beard oils come in different formulations and each one varies in consistency. If you have a thick, coarse beard, you’re going to benefit the most from a thicker and heavier oil. On the other hand, if your beard is short and fine, your best bet is a lighter beard oil instead.
  6. Test the absorbency - how fast can the skin absorb your beard oil of choice? Does it get absorbed in a matter of seconds or does it stay on the skin’s surface for a few minutes before completely disappearing? You can test this by adding a few drops of oil on you wrist, rubbing it in, and seeing how well and how quickly the skin absorbs it. You’re going to want one that gets easily absorbed and doesn’t leave a greasy residue on the surface of your skin.
